Secondary schools should consider creating reading lists in advance. By creating a syllabus of literary works (both fiction and non-fiction) you can obviate the need for remote learning. Given that the grid might be spotty and staff and students will be intermittently sick, a focus on independent learning will allow students to continue to think, while not focusing too much on graded assignments.
College admissions departments will obviously understanding of the gaps in preparation that this will create. No one should be disadvantaged by missing 3–6 months of school.
